Major Richard J. Hughbank, US Army (Retired), CMAS, CHS IV



Richard is the President of Extreme Terrorism Consulting (www.understandterror.com). Maj. Hughbank served over 21 years as a Military Police officer. He is a published author on terrorism and homeland security related issues including a counterterrorism book titled “The Dynamics of Terror and the Creation of Homegrown Terrorism” due out in Spring 2010. He served as a terrorism liaison officer between the US Army (101st Airborne Division) and the CIA/FBI while serving in Afghanistan and is a Premier Speaker for the National Center for Crisis Management where he holds three certifications: Board Certified Expert in Traumatic Stress, Board Certified in Emergency Crisis Response and Board Certified in School Crisis Response. Maj. Hughbank is currently a Ph.D. candidate in strategic security and an adjunct professor of homeland security and counterterrorism graduate courses at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, Fairleigh Dickinson University, and Henley-Putnam University.

Steven Emerson



Steve is the Executive Director of The Investigative Project on Terrorism (www.investigativeproject.org), a non-profit organization that serves one of the world's largest storehouses of archival data and intelligence on Islamic and Middle Eastern terrorist groups. Emerson launched The Project in 1995, following the November 1994 public television broadcast of his documentary film, "Jihad in America," which exposed clandestine operations of militant Islamic terrorist groups on American soil. Emerson received numerous awards for the film, including the George Polk Award for best television documentary. Emerson and his staff frequently provide briefings to U.S. government and law enforcement agencies, members of Congress and congressional committees, and print and electronic media on terrorist financing and operational networks of Al Qaeda, Hamas, Hezbollah, Islamic Jihad, and the rest of the worldwide Islamic militant spectrum. The Project’s website is considered one of the top counterterrorism websites in the world. Emerson is the author or co-author of six books on terrorism and national security. Prior to starting the Investigative Project on Terrorism, Emerson worked as a correspondent for CNN and previously as a senior editor at US News and World Report.



Dr. James J.F. Forest



James is the Director of Terrorism Studies and Associate Professor of Political Science at the United States Military Academy, where he has worked since 2001. He teaches undergraduate courses in terrorism, counterterrorism, information warfare, international relations and sub-Saharan Africa. He also directs a series of research initiatives and education programs for the Combating Terrorism Center at West Point (ctc.usma.edu), covering topics such as terrorist recruitment, training, and organizational knowledge transfer. He has worked on numerous policy and research initiatives for various government agencies and served as an advisor to the Future of War panel for the Defense Science Board. Dr. Forest was selected by the Center for American Progress and Foreign Policy Magazine as one of “America’s most esteemed terrorism and national security experts” and has participated in their annual Terrorism Index studies for the past four years. He has published 11 books, including his latest, Influence Warfare: How Terrorists and States Fight to Shape Perceptions.



Dr. Mark Lerner



Dr. Mark Lerner is a clinical and forensic psychologist, author, speaker and international traumatic stress consultant who focuses on helping people during challenging times. He maintains a clinical practice in Melville, N.Y. As president of the Institute for Traumatic Stress, Inc. and Mark Lerner Associates, Inc., Traumatic Stress Consultants, he regularly provides practical information, training, support and early short-term intervention for individuals, families, organizations and corporations around the world. Dr. Lerner is the founder and past president of the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress and former chairman of the National Center for Crisis Management. He is the originator of the Acute Traumatic Stress Management intervention model and has authored several books based on this model including Comprehensive Acute Traumatic Stress Management, A Practical Guide for School Crisis Response and A Practical Guide for University Crisis Response. He has additionally authored It’s OK Not To Be OK, During a Crisis and Surviving and Thriving, Living Through a Traumatic Experience. Dr. Lerner has been called upon to consult with and train many organizations from small and medium size businesses to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the United Nations. Dr. Lerner frequently works with the legal community, serving as an expert witness in cases involving traumatic stress and PTSD, and with corporations in the development of organization-based crisis management teams. The United Nations has appointed him as an Expert Consultant with the United Nations Department of Safety and Security.
